Rob Stewart (a Canadian photographer, filmmaker and conservationist) produced two films which we have referenced in Alcuin’s Global Stewardship programmes over the past years: Sharkwater (2006) and Revolution (2012).
We were saddened by the news that Rob died in a scuba diving incident off the Florida coast on January 31, 2017. He was 37 years old. Rob had already begun to work on the sequel, Sharkwater: Extinction. In his short lifetime, Rob inspired youth around the world to action and changed government policies. Due to Rob’s tireless efforts, the killing of 80 000 sharks per year has been brought into the spotlight, resulting in multiple international bans on shark finning.
The world is indeed a poorer place today.
