Gerald approached the palace gates. As the guard begins to open the gate, he almost pushes over several guests to reach the front. This is the moment he had been waiting for -the coronation of Frederick the 1st.
In the palace, all the guests find their place. As Gerald looks around the ballroom, he locks eyes with Gotthard and Otto. “Is everything set up?” asks Gerald. “Yes, we are prepared,” responds Otto, with a brief smile. Gotthard wanders off.
The rain was pouring.
It simulated driving through a curtain of water. The thwack-thwack of the windscreen wipers
was hypnotic. He was reminded of the opening scenes of a Hitchcock film.
Through the rain he spotted a person with their thumb out. Why on earth would anyone be hitchhiking tonight? He signalled and pulled over. The hitchhiker climbed in and shut the door quickly.
‘Awful night.’ said the driver.
‘Yes. Yes it is.’
Drops of water trickled down the hitchhiker’s face .The stranger glanced over his shoulder into the darkness behind them.
‘What’s your name?’ asked the driver.
‘Friends call me Si.’
They drove on. The BBC radio blared out.
‘Where are you heading?’ asked the driver.
‘North.’ The hitchhiker replied.
I picked up the dilapidated, yellow, stained newspaper. It was from 2017, years ago. The front page headline was clear. The heading read: CLIMATE CHANGE ON IT’S WAY! I read aloud the article to Simon: “Climate change could be on the horizon sooner than we expected. Scientists have estimated dates for climate change, but now they may be wrong. Many climate change calculations failed to take into account the importance of permafrost. Permafrost has never been a huge concern to climate scientists, until now. The permafrost around the Svalbard Seed Vault in Norway has melted. This happened when the temperature rose to 60- 70 degrees fahrenheit. We now realise that inside the permafrost contains 1.8 trillion tons of carbon, which when released can incredibly speed up climate change. This would mean rapid acceleration of global warming. This could start a chain reaction of temperature increases that we never will recover from – this has the potential to absolutely destroy us. This is a major turning point in climate change science, and for the world.” I sigh.
George flies out of bed to the ringing of his alarm clock. He feels groggy. George stumbles around his bachelor pad, and into his kitchen. George begins preparing an ordinary breakfast. For George, this meant a bagel and various chopped fruits. Today, it was two types of melon, cantaloupe, and honeydew. He had just finished chopping the fruit when he was brought to the present by the “ding” from his toaster. Looking at the toaster, he notices that his bagel is stuck! He realised he does not have time to toast a new one, so he begins trying to free it. Pulling a fork out of a nearby drawer, he begins trying to retrieve the bagel. This he learns quickly, may be difficult. As he proceeds to reach the fork around the bottom of the bagel, he hears a loud “bang” and then feels a zap! His arm feels the extreme pain coming from his fingers. The pain extends all the way down to his chest. He attempts to pull his hand away from the pain, and realises he can’t move! He has become paralysed because of the shock of the toaster. After about eight seconds of agony, he collapses. Black begins to fill his field of view, and weakness overcomes his body. He is on the floor.
Games Workshop is the company you may thank for Warhammer, and a lot of other board games. Games Workshop is an amazing company. You can guarantee whatever you buy from them will be of high quality; after all, they have had this reputation for well-made products for years. They are the number one provider for miniatures, paints, and scenery. One of the issues with having been in production for a long time, is that you must eventually cancel production of models to produce new models. This is normally a good thing, but when you realise just how many amazing games have ended production, you begin to see that numerous introduction games have been cancelled. Mordheim, Necromunda, Battlefleet Gothic Armada, and Man o’ war are but a few.
There is another similarity besides them all being cancelled, they have all been made into video games. This is a cycle that seems to happen anytime Games Workshop cancels a beloved game. There are mixed opinions on this decision. Some hobbyists like the ability to play these wonderful tabletop games even in video game form, but you lose much of that social value along with the ability to customise your miniatures. Overall, most hobbyists will agree that the best format of tabletop games is indeed the table top. However, there is hope with the new CEO of Games Workshop having re-released three old classics: Blood Bowl, Space Hulk, and Hero Quest.
The miniature community is overjoyed by having these beloved games restored to them.
There are many ways to tell the same story. You could write a book, or go one step further and add interaction to your book, you could make a film or TV show to fully exercise your abilities to produce an immersive experience with visuals, you could make a game to let your audience craft an experience of their own whilst experiencing your story, or finally, make a reading of your piece or song to bring the characters alive verbally. All of these methods are acceptable however some suit certain stories better.
Warhammer is a table-top game based around two or more generals commanding large armies of soldiers to war with other generals. There are over 15 different races and nations, all of which are playable. It requires tactics, as well as a bit of luck. This club will be focused on Warhammer Fantasy but 40K players may bring their armies and are welcome. It doesn’t matter if you don’t know anything about Warhammer … everything will be explained!
Don’t worry if you don’t have an army, for armies will be provided; but if you have one, please bring it. We will not only play regular Warhammer, but there will be chain battles, capture the objective, Silver Tower, and many more. So, whether you worship Gork, Mork, Sigmar, Khorne, Hashut, the Dwarves gods, the Elven gods, The Horned Rat, or one of the many other gods, please join us on Wednesdays from 3:00pm to 4:00pm.
Bear hunting is a hard pursuit, and to be successful one needs the right equipment. Bears don’t like to be seen or cross paths with people, they are quite elusive. But my family and I have been successful in capturing them, and I am about to share our secret methods with you. Before you begin, I suggest you emotionally prepare yourself. You may put in a lot of effort for no reward, and you may not even get a single shot. If you are ready, though, you can follow the steps we have taken. To start, I would recommend finding a suitable location where bears are likely to travel. This requires knowing about bears, and how they get food. Suitable places include sources of water, animal trails, and avalanche chutes away from civilization. Continue reading
