Act I, Induction Scenes I and II

Christopher Sly, a local drunk, is mislead by a lord to believe that Sly is actually nobility. While passed out, Sly is carried to the castle where he is cleaned, dressed in fine clothing and placed in bed. When he wakes up, the fun begins!


December 18 – one week to Christmas.

The citizens demand change.

They protest and riot, but their efforts are worth nothing, as the king grinds on them harder. He enforces new laws that don’t apply to the rich and people he is close friends with, and people get rather mad.

This is even felt in the castle, where two people are currently resuming their jobs, early this snowy morning.

The Jester, Chisti, was organizing the silly jokes he had written on a crinkled sheet of paper, muttering the cues for his performance under his breath. The silk of his brightly colored tunic didn’t do much against the chill that was slowly seeping through the stone walls of the royal palace.
